What is eSIM and how does it work?

All owners of mobile phones, where the device uses a SIM card and how to insert it. The presence of such a card in the phone allows you to get access to the mobile connection of one or another operator. Today, many operators are moving away from standard SIM cards, replacing them with innovative eSIM modules. Next, we will understand the concept of eSIM and try to understand how this technology works.

What is eSIM?

eSIM is a built-in communication module that is mounted at the stage of phone assembly. The use of such a module relieves the subscriber of the need to independently place a cellular network card. This technology was provided relatively recently, but is gradually gaining popularity among cell phone manufacturers. The eSIM module can be programmed for any telecom operator. Thus, the subscriber will be able to switch to a suitable service operator at any time without changing the SIM card.

What is eSIM technology?

Let's see how eSIM works using the example of a standard SIM card. The very concept "SIM" is translated as "subscriber identification module". Such cards are issued by a company providing communication services. Also, the operator assigns a unique number to each subscriber, which allows to identify the client and the encryption key. Such information is indicated in the SIM card, the volume does not exceed 2 bits. If the subscriber decides to change the operator, then he should be used in the company in order to use a new SIM card, which has all the specified data. Using the universal eSIM communication module, the subscriber can choose a suitable telecom operator at any time without changing the physical medium - the SIM card. The built-in module can be easily programmed for any operator. To do this, the subscriber does not have to change the physical medium and visit the office of the company providing communication services. It is enough to choose an eSIM data plan and connect to the cellular network of the selected operator.

What are the benefits of eSIM?

The small size of the eSIM module allows you to make the gadget thinner and more compact. By changing the operator, you don't have to get a new SIM card, you just need to change the phone settings. The eSIM module allows you to simultaneously detect up to 5 virtual SIM cards. eSIM can usually be used with a regular SIM card. If the phone is lost or stolen, the attacker will not be able to get rid of the SIM card and hide the location of the device.
